Below is a video from Paul Washer, a missionary and head of the HeartCry Missionary Society. I have been hearing more and more of this missionary who is so soft-spoken and mild-mannered out of the pulpit but when he is preaching, his passion for lost souls flows over – to where his heart for the Gospel rings out.
Let’s face it, the Gospel is offensive. It is offensive to the unregenerate person. It is offensive to one’s pride. It is offensive to one’s lifestyle of sin. And many pastors have gone the easy road in preaching a gospel of “easy-believism.” Just believe and you are “in the family.” To be justified is by faith alone by grace alone in Christ alone and that message is simple, but it is not easy. Just believing makes you the same as Satan since he believes in Christ. Saving faith is much deeper than that – it is a radical change, a new heart, a new creation, new desires, and a new Master.
Pastors – stop giving the people what their itching ears want to hear and just preach God’s Word, just preach the Gospel, preach the offensive Gospel because it is too important…it is the difference between eternal life and eternal wrath.
Paul Washer says, “But out of cowardice and self-preservation, they will not preach the Gospel.” “This country is not Gospel-hardened, it is Gospel-ignorant, because most of the pastors are Gospel-ignorant.”
And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5
